Amphion Semiconductor is a leading supplier of video codec silicon intellectual property for SoC and FPGA technologies. The team is highly experienced in all aspects of development, integration and support, and the IP is production proven in many chipsets at process nodes down to and including 16nm.
The video codec IP has been developed over a number of years while the engineering team worked as the video codec centre of expertize within a Set-Top-Box (STB) fabless semiconductor company. The IP was then acquired through a management buyout.
All of the main video codec formats are supported by the IP, up to the latest HEVC 4K/UHDp60 format, as well as previous formats. Amphion IP is available to be licensed for SoC or FPGA projects. License terms are flexible including single use and multi-use licenses, per chip royalties and an NRE for any customization.


IP Customization

Amphion works closely with clients to customize it video codec IP cores to the requirements of the end application. This includes modifications to memory interfaces and bus structures.

CS8000 ‘Malone’ video decoder family

The CS8000 ‘Malone’ family of video decoders has been proven in
volume production in a number of formats at process nodes down to
16nm. The design process followed in creating these cores has resulted
in solutions that are minimum size and minimum power consumption. In
addition, the rigorous verification process undertaken ensures high
quality, reliable solutions for our customers. Formats supported by the
cores include HEVC/H.265, VP9, AVC/H.264, VP8, VP6, AVS, AVS+,
MPEG-2, MPEG-4.2, VC-1, DivX 3.11, RV8/9/10. Formats are
supported up to and including 4Kp60, 4Kp120 and 8Kp60 with a single

CS9110 Windsor H.264/AVC video encoder

The CS9110 ‘Windsor’ AVC encoder is a compact, yet feature rich encoder which supports up to HDp30 and is suitable for applications that need a very area efficient implementation. It can also be configured to support MPEG2.
● H.264/AVC, CBP, MP with CABAC support, up to level 3.2, max bit-rate 8Mbps
● MPEG-2, MP/ML, MP/HL, max bit-rate 16Mbps
● MPEG-4 Part 2, SP including short header mode supporting, max bit-rate 12Mbps
