Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey — November 11, 2025 — Semiconductor intellectual property (IP) provider CAST today announced that LX Semicon is the 200th customer to license the CAN Bus Controller IP Core from CAST. They will use the ISO 26262 ASIL D-ready functional safety version of the CAN core in a major automotive chip development project. This milestone underscores CAST’s leadership in CAN IP, with two decades of continuous product evolution and adoption by system developers worldwide.
About LX Semicon
Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Daejeon, South Korea, LX Semicon Co., Ltd. is a global fabless IC design company specializing in complex mixed-signal semiconductors. The company develops integrated circuits for display drivers and processors, power and motor management, and general microcontrollers, serving applications across automotive, mobile, home appliances, and consumer electronics. LX Semicon maintains R&D and business operations in Silicon Valley, Japan, China, Taiwan, and India, and is guided by the motto: “The next wave, we design — Waves of innovation designing tomorrow.”
LX Semicon chose CAST’s controller and complementary cores for their automotive project after rigorously evaluating the available CAN IP options. The choice was based on the core’s technical completeness and functional safety features, along with CAST’s willingness to adapt the IP to project-specific requirements and the company’s responsive support.
About the CAN Controller IP Core
CAST licensed its first CAN controller core in 2003 and has continuously enhanced the product to meet evolving customer and standards requirements. The current CAN-CTRL Bus Controller IP Core supports Classical CAN (2.0), CAN FD, and CAN XL, with advanced features such as CAN frame timestamping, AUTOSAR and SAE J1939 optimization, error checking and traffic analysis, and a CANsec cipher engine for CAN XL. Standard interfaces and a rich set of software drivers simplify integration into ASIC or FPGA designs.
LX Semicon selected a Functional Safety version of the CAN core enhanced for ISO 26262 conformance up to ASIL D, providing the highest level of safety assurance demanded in mission-critical applications.
With 200 customers worldwide — many of them repeat licensees for multiple projects — CAST’s CAN IP cores are among the most widely used and trusted available. The cores have been validated through third-party verification IP, independently certified within end-customer products, and exercised at multiple CAN in Automation (CiA) plugfests to ensure compliance and interoperability.
“Reaching our 200th CAN customer with a design house of LX Semicon’s caliber reinforces the trust global designers place in CAST,” said Peter Dumin, senior product manager at CAST. “Our CAN core combines long-proven reliability with the latest standards support and functional safety features, helping customers minimize design risk while accelerating system development.”
Beyond CAN: CAST Automotive IP Family
The CAN Controller IP core is part of CAST’s robust and extensive Automotive Cores family. This also includes TSN Ethernet, LIN, and SENT bus controllers, a low-latency eMAC, and CANsec. Companion cores like TCP/IP and UDP/IP network stacks, MCUs, and peripherals are also available. These can be licensed individually or pre-integrated with the CAN core, helping SoC developers shorten time-to-market for complex automotive and mission-critical designs. Email CAST sales for more information, and in China, visit CAST at the CiA CAN XL roadshow China 2025, November 18 to 21, 2025, in Beijing, Shanghai, or Shenzhen..
