Job Description:
Rivian is dedicated to creating emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles and fostering a team that values curiosity and environmental protection. We are seeking a Hardware Functional Safety Engineer to join our Electric Power Conversion group, focusing on the functional safety development of power electronics components for steer-by-wire systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop Hardware FTA, FMEA & FMEDA’s, DFA for electrical hardware design.
- Serve as the Safety expert in safety-critical cross-functional design decisions.
- Support the reliability organization in deriving mission profiles and FIT rates for hardware components using IEC or Siemens standards.
- Develop hardware safety concepts, architecture, and requirements to provide design recommendations across electronics subsystems.
- Support application-specific software safety analysis and requirements development.
- Collaborate with the Reliability organization in defining mission profiles based on vehicle use cases.
- Develop traceability between hardware safety and technical safety requirements, test cases, and work-products.
- Create a Design Verification Plan (DVP) for hardware safety and system safety requirements, including fault injections.
- Support test teams in executing test cases and troubleshooting.
- Assist the vehicle's functional safety team in developing technical safety requirements and hazard analysis risk assessments.
- Document safety requirements, analysis, architecture implementation, verification, and validation events for each sub-system.
- Author and review high-level safety documentation.
- Drive functional safety design processes and promote a safety culture within the organization.
Qualifications:
- MS, BS, or PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Embedded systems design experience.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical safety hardware and functional safety engineering, particularly in ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 standards.
- Strong understanding of failure mode analysis of complex electrical designs, especially in power electronics applications.
- Experience in advanced electronics design and circuit analysis.
- Knowledge of Safety Analysis methodologies using industry-standard tools: FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, STPA, SPFM/LFM, and PMHF.
- Experience in performing hardware FTAs, FMEDAs, and DFAs at the component level.
- Ability to create traceability in requirements management tools like JAMA.
- Experience working within cross-functional teams and managing multiple safety engineering projects.
Skills:
- Proficiency with Medini, Flow, or similar tools.
- Experience with LTSpice or similar simulation tools for circuit failure effects.
- ISO 26262 Certification.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
