Job Description:

Allen Control Systems (ACS) is an innovative defense startup founded by former Navy electrical engineers, specializing in robotics and software. The company is developing an autonomous gun turret designed to target and neutralize drones and loitering munitions using advanced computer vision and control systems. With a strong engineering-first culture and a commitment to technical excellence, ACS aims to make a significant impact in the defense sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Integrate electrical subsystems including motor drivers, sensors, cameras, networking, and power systems.
  • Perform system bring-up, debugging, and validation during prototype and production phases.
  • Debug and integrate systems spanning Linux-based platforms and STM32 firmware.
  • Use lab equipment like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to diagnose issues.
  • Develop and execute test procedures for validation at electrical, communication, and system levels.
  • Support field testing and root-cause failures during operation.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to enhance design robustness.
  • Build and maintain test fixtures, harnesses, and automation tools.
  • Assist in validating new hardware revisions and verifying design changes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in hardware bring-up, integration, and testing.
  • Strong hands-on experience with lab instrumentation like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and firmware debugging.
  • Proficiency in Linux environments from the command line.
  • Experience with electrical interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, RS-422/485, UART, I²C).
  • Basic scripting or programming ability in Python or C/C++.
  • Understanding of real-time constraints and hardware-software integration challenges.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment.

Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with high-power, motor-driven, or battery-based systems.
  • Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or system-level test environments.
  • Knowledge of embedded Linux platforms such as Yocto or Ubuntu.
  • Understanding of EMI and EMC considerations and field reliability challenges.
  • Experience in field testing or operational deployments.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex hardware system failures.
