Munich, Germany – May 28, 2025 – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) today announced the establishment of its inaugural European Design Center, set to commence operations in Munich during the third quarter of 2025. This strategic move underscores TSMC’s commitment to supporting European clients in developing high-density, high-performance, and energy-efficient chips tailored for automotive, industrial, AI, and IoT sectors.
“We are excited to expand our global footprint with the opening of our Munich Design Center,” said Paul de Bot, President of TSMC Europe. “This facility will enable us to collaborate more closely with our European customers, providing them with the advanced design support necessary to accelerate innovation in critical application areas.
The Munich center will become TSMC’s tenth design facility worldwide, joining a network that includes locations in Taiwan, mainland China, Japan, Canada, and the United States. The decision to situate the center in Munich was influenced by the city’s proximity to key European clients and its robust engineering talent pool.
This initiative complements TSMC’s ongoing project in Dresden, Germany, where the company is collaborating with Infineon Technologies, NXP Semiconductors, and Robert Bosch GmbH to construct a €10 billion semiconductor manufacturing facility under the European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC) joint venture. The Dresden plant aims to enhance Europe’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and is expected to commence volume production by the end of 2027.
TSMC’s expansion into Europe aligns with the European Union’s efforts to strengthen its semiconductor industry and reduce dependence on foreign chip production. By establishing a design center in Munich, TSMC is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing Europe’s technological sovereignty and supporting the region’s growing demand for advanced semiconductor solutions.About
