An ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) is a custom designed chip targeted for special application, such as a electric toothbrush or smartwatch. As opposed to standard off-the-shelf chips, such as memory chips, ASICs are designed specifically based on your requirements therefore they are called application specific ICs.
