Job Description:
Amazon Leo is launching a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities globally. The Systems Engineer will focus on designing, developing, and integrating communication payload and ground terminal systems for this initiative.
Responsibilities:
- Design advanced L1/L2 algorithms and solutions for the Amazon Leo communication system, particularly Multi-User MIMO techniques.
- Develop proof-of-concepts for critical communication payload components using SDR platforms with FPGAs and general-purpose processors.
- Collaborate with ASIC development teams to create efficient L1/L2 HW accelerators for integration into Amazon Leo SoCs.
- Provide specifications and collaborate with implementation teams on embedded L1/L2 HW/SW architectures.
- Work with multi-disciplinary teams to develop advanced solutions for time, frequency, and spatial acquisition/tracking in LEO systems under uncertainties.
- Develop link-level and system-level simulators and provide feedback on performance improvements.
- Create testbeds with digital, IF, and RF components, considering link-budgets and RF/IF line-ups.
- Assist in system integration and debugging from PHY to network layer, interfacing with flight computer and SDN control subsystems.
- Take ownership of the development process from algorithm specification to integration into the Amazon Leo system.
- Support team members and collaborate with RF, ASIC, SW, Comsys, and Testbed teams to advance development and testing activities.
Qualifications:
- PhD or Master's degree with 5+ years of quantitative field research experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience in wireless communications at the system or implementation level.
Skills:
- Deep understanding of Multiple access systems such as OFDMA, TDMA, CDMA.
- Strong grasp of communication theory and digital signal processing, especially in multi-antenna signal processing and interference rejection.
- Expertise in multi-user MIMO processing, including synchronization and channel estimation.
- Knowledge of modem L1/L2 algorithms and architectures.
- Experience in HW/SW co-design for power/area efficient solutions in heterogeneous computing architectures.
- Proficiency in developing link and system level simulators using Matlab.
