Job Description:

Cisco's Client Optical Group is seeking a Hardware Engineer to join their system hardware team in Carlsbad, CA. This role involves designing and analyzing high-speed PCBs and substrates for next-generation optical module products. The engineer will collaborate with a diverse team of electrical and mechanical engineers to define hardware architecture and ensure product performance and reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Define hardware architecture and board-level design strategy considering test, qualification, SI, and PI requirements.
  • Conduct schematic design, PCB layout, power simulation, and component selection.
  • Collaborate with layout engineers on PCB placement and routing for optimal SI and PI performance.
  • Select appropriate PCB materials and stack-up, addressing DFM issues with vendors.
  • Support prototype testing, function bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Lead PCB design reviews, providing expert guidance and ensuring adherence to performance and reliability targets.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in BSEE or 3+ years with a Master’s Degree.
  • Experience in digital, analog, and power circuit design.
  • Hands-on experience in PCB/substrate design from concept to release, including knowledge of design rules and thermal design.
  • Experience with high-efficiency DC-DC power conversion design and circuit simulation.
  • Practical experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Design Entry HDL, Allegro PCB Editor, Allegro Package Designer, Spice, LTspice, and TI WorkBench.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to innovate.
  • Knowledge of optical transceiver module types and requirements.
