Job Description:
The Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic is seeking skilled engineers to support the research, development, testing, and evaluation of technologies enhancing Naval SIGINT programs. The role involves designing software-defined RF pipelines, developing GNU Radio flowgraphs, and optimizing DSP algorithms to ensure Navy sensors effectively counter emerging threats.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build software-defined RF pipelines for real-time maritime environments.
- Develop GNU Radio flowgraphs and custom OOT blocks, integrating SDR front-ends and ensuring robust metadata handling.
- Implement and optimize DSP algorithms in Python and C/C++, focusing on throughput and latency targets.
- Conduct R&D prototyping to evaluate emerging RF/DSP techniques and transition successful capabilities into Programs of Record (PORs).
- Perform modeling, performance analysis, and root-cause investigations for software signal chains.
- Support the RDT&E of innovative technology for Navy SIGINT systems.
- Provide on-site engineering support for the SSEE Family of Systems and other SIGINT/IO/EW/CSO Systems.
- Identify and orchestrate the integration of innovative technology within the community.
- Provide systems engineering support across various hardware types, including RF assemblies and digital signal processors.
- Evaluate vendor capabilities for required products and services.
- Analyze and generate engineering schematics and change notices.
- Perform hardware design and RF system analysis.
- Support the integration of novel solutions into existing Programs of Record.
- Conduct self-directed research and troubleshoot existing systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) or computer engineering (ECE/CmpE/CompE).
- Minimum five years of experience in electrical and/or computer system engineering.
Skills:
- Hands-on experience with GNU Radio flowgraphs and SDR processing chains.
- Strong development skills in Python and C/C++ for RF/DSP algorithms.
- Experience with RF assemblies, power supplies, FPGAs, and embedded architectures.
- Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with digital and RF test equipment, including signal generators and spectrum analyzers.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
